R&D

GREENPOLYMER's R&D is built around your part: what performance it needs, which formulation delivers it, and how to keep it stable in mass production. We focus on four areas: flame safety, structural strength, appearance and environmental performance.

Compounding toolbox

Compounding means adding other components to a base resin to change its properties. Methods we often use:

  • Adding glass fiber or carbon fiber for higher strength, stiffness and heat resistance.

  • Adding elastomers for higher impact strength, especially at low temperatures.

  • Adding halogen-free flame retardants such as phosphorus-based or silicone-based systems to reach the target flammability rating.

  • Adding mineral fillers to adjust stiffness, dimensional stability and cost.

  • Color
  • Mixing two or more resins, such as PC and ABS, to combine their strengths.

  • UV resistance, hydrolysis resistance, antistatic, thermal conductivity and more.

  • Colors are set at the pelletizing stage.

R&D areas

  • Halogen-free / fluorine-free flame retardancy

    Problem to solve

    Meet the flammability rating while also being halogen-free and PTFE-free

    Related materials
    • Flame-retardant PC/ABS
    • Flame-retardant PC
  • Structural reinforcement

    Problem to solve

    Replace some metal parts with plastic to reduce weight

    Related materials
    • Glass- or carbon-fiber-reinforced PA6
  • Appearance and color

    Problem to solve

    Mold-in-color (paint-free), high gloss, consistent color

    Related materials
  • Recycled material applications

    Problem to solve

    Use recycled material where performance and appearance remain acceptable

    Related materials
    • -R versions

Each method affects other properties. For example, adding flame retardant can lower impact strength. The core of R&D work is finding the balance between these properties.

Application evaluation

Specimen data cannot fully predict how a part performs. Where possible we evaluate materials at the part level:

  • Flammability at the actual wall thickness;
  • Screw boss fastening and snap-fit assembly;
  • Low-temperature drop and impact;
  • Retention of appearance and properties after damp heat and xenon-arc / UV aging;
  • Cracking after contact with chemicals such as cleaners and grease.

Test items are set by your standards and test conditions. Part-level testing capabilities: [to be verified by GREENPOLYMER]

Mold flow analysis support

A material's flow length, shrinkage and fiber orientation affect filling, weld lines and warpage. We can provide the material data needed for mold flow analysis and discuss the results and improvements with your mold team. Scope of material card data: [to be verified by GREENPOLYMER]

3D printing materials R&D

We apply our formulation and color matching experience from injection molding compounds to 3D printing materials. Printing materials also require work on diameter stability, interlayer adhesion, printing temperature window and warpage control. Products and R&D progress are on the filament pages.
